How to change drum breaks to disk breaks?

change my rear drums on 01 civic to diskHow to change drum breaks to disk breaks?
get disks and calipers for rear. then it gets tricky. if the car uses a distributor valve you will need to have that changed. cuz drum brakes use much less pressure and force than disk. Thats an easy task, but, if you have anti lock brakes and they are controlled by a computer, you will need to reprogram the computer. Also, it may be set up specially for drum brakes since that is stock. in which case the whole brake system may need to be redone. AKA a TON of money.

My best advice is leave the drums. on a civic, you are not going to reach amazing speed, and the car is lightweight. that combination leads to fine braking power for you, you dont need disks. It is an unneccesary expense. if anything, just upgrade your front disk brakes (since they are disk), to slotted rotors, improves stopping power.

if you want the drums to look good, go to pep boys or kragen and buy caliper paint. then paint the drums. looks good, and costs little (like $5 for a can on caliper paint) or paint them with engine enamel (same price as caliper paint). It has a higher heat resistance so if your brakes get hot from stopping a lot, the paint will not chip (engine enamel is made to stand up to 2000 degrees)How to change drum breaks to disk breaks?
too much money for any added benefits. By the time you figure in the cost of conversion, you could have rebuilt the drums 10x over.
find a different model civic that came with disc brakes ,that's the easiest way and the cheapest way to do this, they do make change over kits for this but they are way to expensive,if you can find one in a salvage yard that came with them it will save you a lot of money, and will be a lot easier to do,good luck.
