Are changing break pads on a 95 mercury cougar really hard?

if u describe how to do them ill give u 10 points easyAre changing break pads on a 95 mercury cougar really hard?
If you follow nirvana19791979's instructions, you will destroy your brake calipers!!! The caliper pistons in the rear do not COMPRESS into the caliper. They TURN CLOCKWISE %26amp; COMPRESS SIMULTANEOUSLY into the caliper body. Be sure to use a lot of WD-40 or penetrating fluid on the caliper piston boots when doing this. They are generally stiff. The brake caliper bolts are 13mm and 15mm for the caliper bracket, if I remember correctly. The brake rotors just knock off the hub. Be sure to service and lube your caliper slide pins with the proper lubricant when doing this. Hope this helps. Are changing break pads on a 95 mercury cougar really hard?
Man, you're asking *here* how to do brake work? Send me your address so I stay away from that area.
it's ez man, take your wheel off, do one side at a time, there should be 2 big *** bolts holding the brakes on, take those out, remove the brake assembly, take the old pads out, get a c-clamp and put one end on the caliper and one on the back of the housing, squeeze all the way in, put new brakes back in, put assembly back on, tighten bolts, repeat for other side, then bleed your brakes and there you go, takes about 15-30 minutes
Its easy but kinda hard to explain over computer, so look around the net they might have a video to follow so it would go much smoother trust me
should be like any other disc brake system. take the wheels off, and take off the two bolts that hold the caliper on. they vary by make and model, but they always run to the caliper mounting bracket. make sure it's light out so you can see this easily. anyway take the bolts out, and the caliper should slide out, you might have to wiggle it a little. next take the pads out, they pop right out. next you have to push back the caliper piston that pushes the inner brake pad. do this with a c-clamp. next, put the new pads on, put the bolts back on the caliper, tighten them and put the wheel back on. torque the lug nuts. pump the brake pedal, going halfway to the floor about 5-10 times. then test drive the car to make sure everything is working smoothly.

pretty easy, should take you less than an hour.
not if you know how...get a shop manual at the parts store ..15 dollars well spent.
if you want to do a brakes job.

you need a mechanic beside You.

I can't tell You over the internet, for safety reasons.

brakes job is not a joke!! is Your life or someone else.
Easy!

This goes for the front brakes!|

Set parking brake!

Chock rear wheels!

Break loose the front wheel lug nuts before jacking the front of the car up!

Jack up and place jack stands in proper position!

Then remover the lug nuts to remove then tire!

This is where many people do it different!

I unbolt the caliper first then slide it off to remove the pads.

The use a C-clamp to bleed the pressure out so you can open the caliper up to fit the larger new pads in so they will fit over the the rotor.

Before tighting the clamp, loosen the bleeder valve then clamp down on the caliper piston to bleed out the fluid. Clamp down the where the piston is flush with the caliper.

Before removing the clamp tighten the bleeder valve back up. then remove the clamp.

Place the new pads in place and se the caliper back in place within the mounting brackets. Bolt the caliper down tight.

Once both sides are finished and a friend help bleed the air out of the system! Start with the passanger side first then do the driverside.

I usually pump the brakes 4 times then hold down. While your friend does this loosen the bleeder valve to allow the air to escape. Brakefluid will squirt out so you can use a small rubber hose over the valve to catch the fluid. Dont let the friend lift the pedal till you have tightened the valve closed.

Repeat 3 times on each side.

Keep a eye on the level of brake fluid in the resevoir. Once complete remount the tires and remove the stands and so forth. This is a little harder to explain then to do by a long shot. I personally dont like to tell people how to do brakes since thats a very dangours thing to mess up. Brakes are very easy even with limited tools. But you should consider a brake shop!
If you have to ask, than yes, changing brakes is hard.
