Can someone please tell me how to change break pads?

i have a 2002 golf tdi and need to change front pads ,taken wheel of but could'nt see how to take the caliper off can anyone help? Can someone please tell me how to change break pads?
You will see two rubber sleeves on the caliper, one near the top and one near the bottom. There are dust caps covering the end of them to protect the slider pins from getting rusty. Pry off the dust caps and set them aside. Inside you will see the bolt head of the slider pin, I think it's a 8 mm Allen wrench, I don't recall the size. Loosen both slider pins first, then remove then completely after. This helps to avoid any problems with caliper removal. Then wiggle caliper assembly off. Don't let caliper hang by brake hose, you will damage the hose. Hang with piece of coat hanger from coil spring. With a C- clamp. gently press on the old brake pad that is sitting on the piston until the piston is retracted completely. You may need to remove the outer brake pad first, if it's in the way. Remove old brake pads. Then clean up any rust on the brake pad contact surfaces of the caliper with a small wire brush or sandpaper. Then apply anti-seize lubricant to the contact surfaces. Install new brake pads on caliper. Remount caliper on car. Wipe clean the two slider pins, wire brush them if they are rusty, then lube them with silicone brake lube. Re-install the two slider pins into the caliper. Make sure they both screw in properly, then tighten them both. Re-install dust caps. Repeat entire process on other wheel. Then pump brake pedal slowly until all the slack is taken up by the calipers.

Now you're good to go.Can someone please tell me how to change break pads?
caliper is bolted on from rear they are relatively easy to do but i would advise buying a haynes manual for reference they are great for double checking things
there is a small pin wire and needs to be taken off with a screw driver or something because it gets stuck very easy and once that wire is off pull the calliper and the pads are underneath
If you can't figure out how to get the calipers off, you might not be prepared to do the job yourself.

If you really want to do the work yourself, you should get yourself a copy of the Chilton manual for your make and model. It will walk you through repairs like this, step by step.
THERE SHOULD BE 2 BOLTS, 1 ON TO, AND ONE ON BOTTOM, LOSSEN ONE, AND REMOVE THE OTHER, THEN PULL THE CALIPER BACK , AND WAIT, NO ,IF YOUR ASKING , THEN LET SOMEONE ELSE DO IT, THATS DANGEROUS THINK ABOUT IT, YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON THOSE BRAKES, HAVE A BUDDY TEACH YOU , OR GO BUY THE HANES BOOK ON IT , AND STUDY IT, ITS NOT HARD, OR JUST TAKE IT TO A LOCAL SHOP, JUST DONT GO TO MIDAS, THEY WILL GET YOU WITH NO VASELINE IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN, LOL, TAKE CARE
its easy to change pads but id rather spend a tenner and get it changed. go to a small garage and tel them you are not paying more than a tenner because thers hardley any work to do. no point getting your hands dirty
Go down to your local Autozone, Advanced Auto or where ever you get your parts and spend the $16.98 for the manual for you car. Then read it and it will tell you and have pictures to show you. Simple. If you're not sure how to do brakes then get a profesional to do them. The life you save could be yours or mine.
If you really want to do a proper job that ends in a safe result, buy a Haynes Manual. 拢20 from Halfords. You will save the 拢20 many times over as you maintain the car.
It's an easy job if you know what you are doing and experience tells me that as you have to ask how then you probably do not possess the skills to do it yourself

You only have to make one simple mistake and you could kill someone

Leave it to the professionals. Your local garage should only charge about 1 hour labour and that is far cheaper than the alternative if you get it wrong

Trust me I know what I am talking about
Good advice from fred405. I've been repairing cars for 27 years.
