I need to change front break pads and just want to make sure that i don't need anything special before I tear into it.How do you change breaks on a 2004 buick rendevous? and does it take any type of speciality tool?
just google car sites to get detailed instructions.
Open master cylinder reservoir (where teh fluid goes)
Remove wheel,
unloosen caliper bolts.
Remove one bolt,
Slide caliper unit up, so one part is still attached to the mounting bracket.
remove brakes.
(here you'll need what's called a caliper, buy one at a local auto parts store or home depot, make sure it's at least 12';). Use 1 old pad and put on the car caliper piston then use the caliper tool and screw it down to get the piston down into the car caliper. Using an old pad will ensure you don't overpush the piston in and damage the brake caliper.
Remove old pad
Install new pads with blue brake squeal paste on back, or duct tape.
slide car caliper unit back on. Torque down. - be careful, if you have aluminum caliper bolts they break easily and you'll be in for a long day removing that bolt if it breaks. If aluminum, torque is around 14-18 lbs, if steel, 30 lbs.How do you change breaks on a 2004 buick rendevous? and does it take any type of speciality tool?
The key parts of the job are:
1. Make sure you do not jam the pistons ******** in the cylinders. This is really easy to do if you don't have the right tool for retracting the pistons. Once a piston is jammed you'll need a whole new caliper. You'll also need a way to drive to the auto parts store to buy the new caliper.
2. Understand how to bleed brakes. It's best done by two people.
If you have a friend who has done brakes successfully already, have him help you. Really.
If you live in the mountains, there will be lots of guys who know how to do brakes correctly. The ones who do it wrong all fall off the mountain and die. Flatlanders do not have that advantage.
95% of all cars brake work same way just pads and nuts and bolts change so knowing how one works you can pretty much do any car there after easy really type into search box
how to check brake pads
how to replace brake pads
how to bleed brake
how to remove brake rotors
can pretty much do any car only two really 95 % have have type system one wil have screw in type piston caliber which you can tell by looking at piston inside caliber or if it doesnt push back in easy look to see if it has a notch cut in piston if so its screw type you can rent a tool other than that nothing special you need my brake tools a big screwdriver to pry back pads or push in caliber and whatever wrench to remove pin or bolt
yea you need to know you don't do pad slaps you do it all at one time. that's a tool and piece of information you now have.
You'll need ';brake'; pads.
A big C-clamp to compress the pistons is about all you'll need, as well as the knowledge.
